Dynamic Display of Talent at Budgam Kho-Kho Championship

’The Department of Youth Services and Sports, Zone Budgam, hosted an exciting Kho-Kho competition for girls under 17 and under 19 at BHSS Budgam on August 8, 2024. The event saw an impressive turnout, with 150 young athletes from various institutions showcasing their skills and determination.

The competition was inaugurated by the esteemed Zonal Physical Education Officer (ZPEO) of Budgam, Mr. Tariq Ahmad, who was joined by Mr. Kousar Ahmad, the zone’s activity in-charge, along with other senior officials. In his opening remarks, Mr. Tariq Ahmad emphasized the significant role that sports play in the holistic development of students. He commended the participants for their dedication and encouraged them to continue their involvement in physical activities, underscoring the long-term benefits of an active lifestyle.

The competition featured fierce but friendly rivalry among the teams. The DPS Budgam U19 girls’ team displayed great skill and teamwork but narrowly missed victory, losing the final match to Girls Higher Secondary School Shogapora by 8 points. Similarly, the U17 girls’ team from DPS Budgam put up a strong fight but was edged out in the quarter-finals by Kashmir Valley School Humhama, with a close 6-point margin.

The event was not only a platform for competition but also an opportunity for young athletes to learn the value of sportsmanship and resilience. The organizers, officials, and participants all contributed to making the event a memorable success, reinforcing the importance of sports in the educational curriculum.
