Deliberation and Debate is the way to stir souls. Delhi Public School, Budgam, organised a spirited and intellectually stimulating debate competition titled “Should homework be banned in Schools” on September 28, 2024 in the school auditorium. The debate aimed at fostering critical thinking, public speaking skills and healthy competition among students. The event showcased the talent and eloquence of students as they engaged in the thought provoking discussions The event commenced with a formal welcome address by Mr Mehfooz Aslam, Dean students, DPS Budgam. The competition witnessed enthusiastic participation from 20 students across 10 different schools from Srinagar. A structured format was followed with one team having one speaker standing up for the motion and the other speaker debating against. A panel of esteemed judges comprising Mrs Ridhima Bhagat, Mrs Eva Bhat and Mr Shahid Khan evaluated the participants on criteria like content delivery, argumentation, rebuttals and overall presentation. Assessing the depth of analysis, clarity of expression and adherence to debate etiquettes, the winners were announced amidst much anticipation and applause. DPS, Budgam represented by Mehar and Ahlam, bagged the 1st position coupled with Mehar being the Best Speaker. The 1st runner up trophy was given to Presentation Convent High School, Rajbagh represented by Maira and Mehveen of grade XI, The session concluded with a speech by Dr D Samuel Seelan, principal DPS Budgam, wherein the winners were congratulated and all the participants appreciated for their intellect and eloquence. The vote of thanks was presented by Mr Mehfooz Aslam.
