Educational Visit to the Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences
The Department of Psychology organized an educational tour for the students of grade 12. The students visited the Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences ( IMHANS) on October 1, 2024 with a motive to gain insight in to psychological and psychiatric needs of people. The tour was conducted under the guidance Ms.Bisma Bilal, the Psychology teacher and Ms. Zainab, the Counsellor for the senior wing.
The tour was led by Dr. Shabnum (Clinical Psychologist) and Ms. Mehreen (M.Phil Scholar). The session began with an orientation wherein everyone introduced themselves. Ms. Mehreen interacted with the students wherein she informed them about the various practices of the hospital and answered the questions raised by the students. The students gained an insight into the different types of cases and the available treatments. They got a vivid idea of the life of the patients at the hospital, the burnout faced by the professionals, the stigma attached to mental health, the interference of quacks in the profession and also about the aftermath of COVID- it’s affects on the mental health of people. They even got an opportunity to get a glimpse of the common psychological disorders found in the Valley. During the visit, the students were given a guided tour of the facilities available at the hospital .
The visit provided the students with a deeper understanding of the practical aspects of the field of clinical psychology. They gained an empathetic understanding of the challenges faced by individuals with mental health disorders.
