
Empowering Voices: DPS Budgam Organises Inter-House Debate on AI
The Department of English, Delhi Public School, Budgam, successfully organised an Inter-House Debate Competition for the students of Classes 9th and 10th on 31 March 2026 in the school auditorium. The event aimed to enhance students’ critical thinking, public speaking skills, and awareness of contemporary issues.
The topic for the debate, “Artificial Intelligence is a Blessing to Humanity,” was both relevant and thought-provoking, encouraging participants to explore the multifaceted impact of technology on human life.
The competition witnessed enthusiastic participation from all four houses, with each house presenting four speakers. The participants showcased remarkable confidence, clarity of thought, and depth of understanding.
The speakers in favour of the motion highlighted how artificial intelligence has revolutionised sectors such as healthcare, education, and communication. They emphasized its role in improving efficiency, reducing human effort, and enabling innovations that were once unimaginable. On the other hand, the speakers against the motion raised concerns about job displacement, ethical dilemmas, over-dependence on machines, and the potential threat to human creativity and privacy.
The debate was judged by a panel of esteemed judges who evaluated the participants on content, expression, confidence, and rebuttal skills. The audience remained highly engaged throughout the session, responding with keen interest and appreciation.
After a closely contested competition, Manasbal House emerged as the winner. Individual prizes were also awarded to the Best Speakers. The First Best Speaker Award was bagged by Ajwa Suhail (Class 10th), followed by Arbaz Zia (Class 10th) who secured the Second Best Speaker Award, and Hibba Shawl (Class 9th) who was awarded the Third Best Speaker position.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the Head of the Department, who appreciated the efforts of the participants. The debate proved to be an enriching experience, fostering awareness, analytical thinking, and effective communication among students.
