Beyond the Bookshelves: A Literary Journey to SPS Library, Srinagar

“Where young readers discovered that every shelf holds a story, and every manuscript preserves a legacy.”

The Book Club of Delhi Public School Budgam embarked on its much-anticipated Literary Trip 2026 to the SPS Library, Srinagar, a cherished haven for book lovers and a significant repository of knowledge and heritage. A selected group of 20 Book Club members, accompanied by the Book Club In-charge, participated in this enriching literary excursion.

The members received a warm and gracious welcome from the Chief Librarian and her associates, who thoughtfully arranged a comprehensive tour of the library. The students were first introduced to the senior citizens sections and the reading room system, where they learned about the library’s efforts to make its resources more accessible and inclusive, particularly through facilities and provisions for specially-abled readers.

The tour then proceeded to the Children’s Section, followed by the sections dedicated to Philosophy, History, and English Literature. Each section offered the students an opportunity to understand the breadth of knowledge housed within the library and to appreciate the importance of libraries as living centres of learning and intellectual discovery.

A particularly memorable moment of the visit was the special opportunity extended to the students to enter the Manuscripts Section. The members were introduced to several rare and valuable manuscripts, allowing them to experience first-hand the historical and literary treasures preserved within the institution. The exceptional access provided to the young readers made the visit especially meaningful and sparked genuine curiosity and fascination among the students.

Following the educational tour, the members enjoyed lunch in the library cafeteria and reflected upon the wealth of knowledge and literary heritage they had encountered. The excitement, curiosity, and enthusiasm of the students were evident throughout the visit.

Before the group departed, the Chief Librarian and her associates extended another gesture of remarkable generosity by making the Book Club members eligible for library membership. This thoughtful gesture, especially meaningful despite the visit taking place in the middle of the academic session, deeply touched the hearts of the students and the Book Club In-charge.

The literary trip proved to be an impeccable blend of learning, exploration, heritage, and inspiration. It not only strengthened the students’ connection with books and libraries but also encouraged them to view reading as a lifelong journey of discovery.
