Srinagar, March 09, 2023: Acknowledging and felicitating the socio- economic, cultural and political achievements of women across the globe, Delhi Public School, Budgam celebrated the International Women’s Day in the school auditorium on 9th March, 2023. The event started with an inaugural address by the chairperson DPS, Budgam, Mrs Mumtaz-u-Nisa Soz, who stressed on the achievements and emerging success of women at both local and national level. Mrs Soz, while sharing her life experiences, highlighted the Kashmiri society and its strong exemplary women like Begum Abdullah, Mridula Sarabhai and others for their remarkable contributions.
An eminent poet and fiction writer, Professor Shafi Shauq, who was the chief guest on the occasion, enlightened the audience with his views on emancipation of women.
Patron DPS Budgam, Prof. Saif-u-Din Soz in his valedictory note highlighted the role of women in the society. He recalled Zoon Begum, the songstress of yester years as the first woman singer and composer of Kashmir.
Mr Mehfooz Aslam, the Principal of the school, welcomed the guests, staff and students who participated in the event and stressed the need of a gender equal world. A world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination. A world that’s diverse, equitable, and inclusive. A world where difference is valued and celebrated. He stated that we can forge women equality collectively.
All India Radio Programme Broadcaster and Executive, Ms Samina Shah, through her presentation deliberated at length upon the true potential and capabilities of women folk in the modern contemporary world. She chiefly stressed the role of parents in making their daughters strong.
Ms. Rakshanda, a young girl of 19 who is the youngest comparer of Radio Kashmir shared her valuable experiences and highlighted the role of women in the present society. The students of the school also shed considerable light on the role of women in the society and the laurels they have won in different fields.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by the Principal.
