Today, the Students of Class 12th of DPS Budgam under the supervision of Mr Aijaz Amir ( PGT Sociology) visited the SPS Museum Srinagar. Established in 1898 AD in the Maharaja’s Summer guest house, it is largely based on the collections transferred from State Toshkhana. Approximately 79,595 artifacts and objects covering various subjects like Archaeology, Numismatics, Decorative Art, Arms and Armory, Paintings, Textiles, religious/cultural artefacts were on display. The study tour was organised to enable the children understand the importance of tourism in sociology. As there are many social benefits of tourism demonstrating positive social impacts, understanding and analysing the past has a great influence. These might include; preserving the local culture and heritage; strengthening communities; provision of social services; commercialisation of culture and art; revitalisation of customs and art forms. The Students really enjoyed the trip and will be able to use the learning in future sociology lessons and beyond.
